Update regarding yesterday’s bus incident:

The bus incident occurred at approximately 2:48PM on September 4. CFSD administrators learned of the incident at approximately 3:15PM, and we immediately began investigating. Student safety is always our top priority, and we have conducted a thorough review of yesterday’s incident to ensure we are doing all we can to keep students safe. Based on our investigation, we believe that the incident was caused by a bus striking a small object or curb as it turned at Grinstead and Adams Streets. A review of the bus’s video camera footage did not show any apparent injuries to any of the students on the bus.

There is minor damage to the rear passenger side of the bus. The video footage confirms that bus passengers experienced a bounce consistent with striking a curb but did not fall from their seats or hit the windows or ceiling.

When questioned by CFSD about the incident, the bus driver stated that he believed he hit a curb, and the video footage confirms that he continued the route as usual. A regular bus stop is located very near the incident location. A group of students exited the bus at the bus stop, and the bus resumed its route.

CFSD personnel spoke with family members of several students from the bus who chose to have their children evaluated at OCMC. We have spoken with other families today to answer questions and address the concerns those families are understandably feeling after hearing news of an incident on their child’s bus. We also know that information can take on a life of its own as it travels through the community. Our goal is to ensure proper safety procedures were followed and to provide accurate information in a timely manner to families and our community.

Good evening. We are investigating the incident that happened this afternoon near the intersection of Grinstead and Adams involving a Camden Fairview school bus. From the information we have gathered so far, all students are now with their families and there is minor damage to the bus. The safety of our students is our top priority. We are cooperating with local law enforcement and will continue conducting our own district investigation. Thank you.

Some absences are unavoidable, but it’s important that students are at school from bell-to-bell as often as possible.

Beginning in kindergarten, regular attendance is often an indicator of higher academic performance. Students who are at #SchoolEveryDay also do better academically in middle school and are more likely to graduate high school.

Each month, the Ivory Intermediate Monthly Newsletter will bring you a roundup of news, events, and updates to keep our community connected and informed about our educational journey. Please also pay close attention to Stay Connected: Weekly District News, which you'll receive each Sunday. It contains important events and reminders for our school.

Our faculty and staff are committed to providing a safe and creative school climate by building positive relationships, resulting in high academic and social achievement for ALL students. You are an important part of our community. Support from our students’ families is vital to their success as scholars. We look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year.

Highlights this month:

House Sorting Week

Last week was a big week for our fourth-graders! After learning about the House System, students took turns spinning the wheel to find out what house they were joining. On Friday, we celebrated House Sorting Week by having a House Colors Shirt Day!

Game Day Tattoos start Friday, August 30

Ivory Intermediate PTO will be selling $1 tattoos on Cardinal Football Varsity home game days!

During Friday lunches, PTO volunteers will have a Cardinal Pride Table in the cafeteria.
Every student who brought tattoo money will receive their tattoo from the Cardinal Pride Table on Friday!

Volunteers are needed! Please join PTO in the cafeteria during your child's lunch Friday if you can help.

Thank you for supporting PTO! All funds raised are used to support our students and staff, including fun student incentives, items for the clothing closet, and treats for staff.

Home games will be on August 30, September 27, October 18 (Homecoming), October 25, and November 8 (Senior Night). PTO will sell tattoos on these dates, except for September 27 when there is no school for a Staff PD Day.

Health immunization reminder

Reminder for families who have children attending Camden Fairview School District: Students must have all required immunizations.

To make sure your child has all required immunizations to attend school, please schedule immunization appointments now with your child's healthcare provider or the Ouachita County Health Unit. The Health Unit's telephone number is 836-5033.

We love providing opportunities for our students to discover and explore their interests! Mrs. Hollis is the sponsor for the Honor Choir and the new Ukulele Club. The Honor Choir will meet at 3:15PM and end at 4:15PM every Tuesday beginning September 3. Beginning on September 3, the 4th grade Ukulele Club will meet at 7:15AM until school begins every Tuesday. Beginning on September 5, the 5th grade Ukulele Club will meet at 7:15AM until school begins every Thursday.

The Ivory Intermediate Step Team will be holding auditions on September 4. Our dance coaches are Mrs. VanHook and Mr. Launius, and they can't wait to get started with this year's team! To tryout, students must return their permission slip, prepare a school-appropriate dance, and wear athletic shoes to tryouts.

In an effort to provide a safe environment and improve security, Camden Fairview School District has implemented a Clear Bag Policy that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into stadiums, gymnasiums and other athletic venues. The policy applies to events at district athletic venues ONLY and does not impact the backpacks students' use daily. For more information and FAQs, please click here.

Bags that are permitted include:

Tote bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap, no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” (approximately the size of a hand)

Bags not permitted:

Backpacks, printed plastic bags, fanny packs, purses, reusable grocery totes, mesh or straw bags, duffle bags, large totes, and camera or binocular cases.
Diaper bags are not allowed. Items normally carried in a diaper bag must be put into a clear plastic bag for venue entry.
Exceptions will be made for credentialed media and medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate by the respective gate supervisor.

There are no provisions available to store or safeguard any prohibited bags. CFSD is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
